By the good light that shines in people’s hearts, I am proud to be a young 19-year-old that can honestly say that he has marvelous people in his life! If you are my dear friend, teacher, or a two-time winning Emmy TV talent, artist, model, and actor then your support means a lot to me as I move forward into my college career and beyond the red carpet as America’s future talk show host. I thank you.
Well, I cannot stress the importance of networking and being proactive, because the benefits are so much greater than the agony of waiting. This is true since I was determined to follow my career goal and manage to nail my first internship as a freshman in college, I made it my own mantra to Network to the high heavens. And well it is paying off.
I met with an alumnus from my school, his name– Tim Estiloz. Yes, Estiloz is a two-time Emmy winning Broadcast/Journalist with all sorts of neat passions like his “God-Given talent” drawing as he put it. I am so thankful for his sincerity and willingness to guide me on my way to entering the good, bad, and ugly of the entertainment industry. We chatted for about an hour or so over some delicious pizza and soda about just the mere beginnings of my questions. I thought about making a enormous list of dos and don’ts while he spoke, but simply my mind was captivated by how well he communicated his ideas and how sincere his statements were. I could not have asked for a better person to help me along my way.
Being here in Boston, I learned that there is a lot of diversity and every person has their own unique story to tell. Although Estiloz did not recite a long dramatic monologue about his life, I honor that he was very forward and upfront about his journey to where he is today. Grant it we only had about an hour, so really who has all that time to talk about every little detail about their tears shed and what not. I know I can’t squeeze all of my life in an hour.
I really enjoy being around someone who is in the field that I want to pursue. I grew up being surrounded by teachers, doctors and lawyers, and only at the age of 14 I would long to be in touch with someone who is on TV. Well, my chance has come and I am taking every life lesson that Estiloz advises me on, because I do not want to waste his time nor ruin a perfectly constructed bridge. This among many encounters with professionals, I must say has been my favorite because–well to put it childishly curious–he has interviewed Meryl Streep. What an honor! For both parties.
Meryl Streep carries this energy about her, and I sense it as she acts as a broken hearted mother not knowing the identity of her daughter’s father or as Runway’s editor-in-chief (Miranda Priestly).
Yes, the joy of interviewing celebrities. Just another perk that I value.
We finished our meal promptly and headed out the door. Before we departed into the hustle and bustle of the 6 o’clock crowds, he did mention “I am just Tim.” And I took this comment as a gentle sign that this very busy and dedicated worker has a heart of gold and really just wants to pass the torch down to the next person and all I could say was ‘I am honored.”
Hey, Tim if you are reading this. I mean that too! Really cool to be under your wing!
